Moving Ann Arbor Forward
I’ve been lucky to engage with many of the diverse communities within Ann Arbor. As part of those communities I’ve sought to learn from others, bridge generational divides, and build consensus. I now want to serve my community and ensure that the city is doing the best to meet its needs.
Affordability and Housing
In order for young Ann Arborites to benefit from a diverse and cohesive community such as I did, we have to make sure we maintain an affordable cost of living. As it stands, it is getting harder and harder for Millennials and Gen Z folks born here to even imagine buying a home in an Ann Arbor neighborhood like the one they were raised in. As a community, we should build in a way that does not force our local talent to find opportunity or cheaper housing elsewhere. Similarly, seniors and longtime residents face the same financial pressures - having so much of our community squeezed financially is unacceptable. I want to make sure that City Hall is doing all it can to create affordable housing, but also to promote small and innovative businesses, so that Ann Arbor is a space for community members to connect and thrive. We must also pursue climate conscious investment, such as weatherization, to help older Ann Arborites age in place.
Sustainable Growth
I am running because I want to help steward Ann Arbor with an eye towards the next generation. I want to make sure our city grows sustainably, keeping the focus on infrastructure that supports our growing population, and keeping our commitment to address the challenge of climate change, starting with adhering to the recommendations of the A2 zero plan. I promise to follow a data-based approach to these issues, tapping the knowledge of local experts. Maintaining our roads, reducing congestion and ensuring pedestrian safety options will help all Ann Arborites take advantage of what the city has to offer. As we grow, we cannot forget to care for the parks and green spaces that give this community its character.
Community Engagement
My life has been enriched by the opportunity to learn from people and communities who are different from me. Whether at school, church or in the neighborhood, I found that people were willing to go out of their way to help me, as long as I was willing to engage in a conversation. I seek to pay it forward. I will listen to the people of this ward with respect and attention when developing solutions. I will use my time and energy to be a resource for this community and to bring your voices to city hall discussions.
