“My priorities are to listen to my neighbors in Ward 2, advocate for the wellbeing of all Ann Arborites, and bring a fresh perspective to city government.”

  • Excellent City Services

The core function of city government is providing excellent City services. This will be my top priority in office: ensuring infrastructure needs are met, City staff have the support they need to provide vital services and that the public has trust in the City to perform these key responsibilities. Ann Arbor should be a statewide leader in the City services that residents receive and depend on.

  • Climate Responsibility

I firmly support enacting the recommendations of the A2 Zero Plan. I'll work to uphold a crucial part of that plan: climate conscious improvements, such as weatherization, that will help low income families, seniors and renters. We are all in this together as a society, and Ann Arbor has the capabilities to set a high standard for what local governments can do in tackling the climate crisis.

  • Equity

Ann Arbor is at its best when we live up to our values. This means striving to be an open and inclusive community and owning up to where we have fallen short. I will be a voice for the black community, and seek to engage with all communities of color, so that the city can use policy to increase opportunity, reduce economic segregation and meet established equity goals. The cause of economic justice is central to the labor movement, and I will support local unions in the fight for safer and better paying jobs.

  • Public Safety

Ensuring we fully explore the options of unarmed responses and coordinating with local mental health professionals is a top priority of mine. Working to coordinate county and city services with respect to the sheriff’s department, police dispatching, community mental health and AAPD will help our services go further for Ann Arborites interacting with law enforcement.

  • Support for LGBTQIA+ communities

Growing up in Ann Arbor, I've seen how the advocacy of Jim Toy and the work of the Oasis ministry at my church helped make Ann Arbor a more welcoming place for my friends in the LGBTQIA+ community. Organizations like the Neutral Zone and the Jim Toy Community Center do invaluable work. I want to ensure that there are spaces where LGBTQIA+ young people can feel empowered and supported as well fight for LGBTQIA+ inclusion at the Council table.

  • Housing and Affordability

I support denser housing, especially in downtown areas, so that young professionals can live closer to where they work and so that lower to middle income workers at the hospital and in downtown businesses don’t have to live in outlying communities. Focusing on walkability and accessibility will be key in my approach to housing. Additionally, I’ll support re-examining zoning policies and finding new ways to engage the community.

  • Support for Innovative Small Businesses

Small businesses that creatively use space to help our community gather, share a meal, or relax are crucial to making Ann Arbor a leading City. Our businesses contribute to the City’s unique culture and keep local talent from leaving. The food truck and pop up businesses that thrived in Ann Arbor during COVID, many of which were started by minorities and women, represent some of the best Ann Arbor has to offer. The city can help these businesses by streamlining permitting and zoning rules to ensure that City Hall is a partner, not an impediment, for local small businesses.

  • Transportation

Our roads need dedicated attention to ensure that everyone can be safe on their commutes to work and enjoying our downtown. I will focus on exploring new strategies so that our roads can last longer and have less congestion. Additionally, we need to keep up momentum on areas we have had successes: road diets on Green and Plymouth road, community engagement on stopping at crosswalks, and a focus on education and outreach. All forms of transit need to be encouraged and supported with the right infrastructure investments.

  • Water

As a core City service, ensuring safe and reliable drinking water is a top priority of mine. We must be aggressive in tackling the intertwined threats of aging water infrastructure and the Gelman dioxane plume. Coordination with other levels of government is required to ensure proper funding for the reinvestments of the water treatment plant as well as the community wide engagement around the Gelman plume. As a community that treasurers it’s natural wonders, I will prioritize preserving our water resources for generations to come.
